1/2 cup sourdough starter
1 cup milk
2 1/2 cups flour, divided
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Butter, melted
The night before; mix starter, milk, and 1 cup flour. Cover and set aside in worm place, over night. In the morning, Place 1 cup of flour in a medium bowl, pour stater mix over flour and mix to make dough. in a small mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour baking soda baking powder, sugar, salt. Pour over dough and begin to kneed lightly. Knead to a stiff dough. Roll out to 1/2" thick. Cut out with 2" cutter and dip into melted butter. Place in the bottom of a 12" dutch oven. Place lid on oven with 2 or 3 charcoals on top and let rise for 30 minutes. Place oven over 14 charcoals, and 18 on top. after 15 minutes, remove the bottom heat, and continue to bake 30 to 40 minutes at 400°f. or until tops are good and brown. ( you may need to remove some of the top heat, if they are browning to fast.) Serve with lots of butter and jam, or gravy.
