Retro Apple Cobbler
I found this in an old 1940,s cook book, and lost it for about 4 years. I found it again last night and had to do it today. I think you all will love it too.
DOWN HOME APPLE COBBLER
FILLING:
6 to 8 Gala apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 teaspoon corn starch
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup Red Hots ( candies )
1/4 cup butter
TOPPING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter milk
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Preheat 10" dutch oven to 350. Using electric mixer on medium, beat butter with brown sugar in mixing bowl until creamy. Blind in egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining topping ingredients and mix thoroughly. In a large mixing bowl, combine all filling ingredients, except the butter and mix well. Pour in to 10" preheated dutch oven. Slice 1/4 cup butter stick in thin slices and place over apple mixture, then top with topping mixture. Spread evenly over apples. Bake one hour with 10 charcoals on the bottom, and 14 on top. When crisp and golden brown, serve warm with Apples Pie ice cream on top.

Oh, Ron, That looks really good! I'm going to have to try that one. The red hots give it great color!
