This one is SOOO OOOY GOOOY good. Home made vanilla bean ice cream is the best with it. You may wont to line your Dutch oven with foil to make clean up faster.
2 tablespoons butter
1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 ½ cups water
1 ¼ cups flour
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
To make caramel sauce, combine butter, brown sugar, and water in a deep, 10" dutch oven. Bring to a boil, over 12 to 14 charcoals; to keep at a simmer, you may need to remove a charcoal or two. Make dumplings by mixing flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in to a mixing bowl; stir in milk and vanilla ( batter should be stiff) Drop by teaspoon ( I use a very small ice cream, or cookie scoop) into simmering caramel sauce. Cover Dutch oven and simmer for 20 minutes, DO NOT REMOVE LID till time is up. Spoon into soup bowls and serve with cream or ice cream. makes 6 servings.
