Beer/Molasses Baked Beans

Beans are always good in camp, or a barbecue. I keep my cook table set up on my patio all year. If I am barbecuing with family and friends, I wont to be out with them on the patio. Not in the kitchen doing my sides and desserts. I do all that in my dutch ovens.
Here is a good bean pot for your next camp or barbecue.

1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 red onions, diced
2 pounds bacon, diced
6 jalapenos, deveined, seeded , minced
2 red bell peppers, seeded, diced
1 bottle, favorite beer
1 cup Favorite barbecue sauce. ( I like "Sweet Baby Ray's )
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup molasses
4 cups cooked pinto beans, ( if caned, drained )
salt to taste

Preheat a 12" or 12", deep, dutch oven and add oil. Saute the garlic and onions until the start to soften, the add bacon, jalapenos, bell peppers, stirring occasionally, cooking until the bacon has browned. In a large mixing bowl, combine the beer, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, molasses, and butter, mixing well. Add to the beans and bacon mixture to the dutch oven, and season with salt to taste. Bake 45 minutes, at 350°f. , or until bubbling and browned on top. Use 9 charcoals on the bottom, and 15 (on regular ) 17 ( on deep ) on top.
Serves abut 8, If I'm not there.

  1. Beans are not something I would make but that recipe sure reads good and tasty.

  2. Beans are a grate old cowboy food. On a trail drive, that and biscuits were about all they got sometimes.
